How to stay motivated as January rolls on!

Be honest with yourself. How many times have you started the year by making a list of resolutions and promises to yourself?

Each year fitness and wellbeing goals become the forefront of our goal setting, with over 39% of the UK population focussing on fitness and wellbeing related resolutions and when it comes to joining a gym, the proof is in the pudding with over 12% of annual gym membership purchases are purchased in January.

Much like any New Year’s resolution, consistency and commitment is key to achieving your goals, which is why we’ve gathered together some essential ideas on how to stay motivated throughout the year.

  1. Set a ROUTINE that works for you!

Whether it’s daily, weekly or monthly it’s super important to figure out your dream workout schedule. If morning’s aren’t your thing, don’t drag yourself out of bed at 5am, find a time during the day or evening which works for you and your energy balance. Milo and the Bull run’s classes at lunch time and in the evenings, giving the early bird’s their opportunity to train, and the night owls the perfect time to hit their PB’s.

2. Find something you enjoy doing!

Finding a gym class and a workout routine that you enjoy is super important. If you’re not enjoying the form of exercise you’re doing, there isn’t going to be any longevity in it. Whether it’s strength, circuits, rowing or yoga and pilates, find something that really gets you going and that you look forward to.

Find it hard to enjoy a gym session alone, bring a friend to your gym class to double the enjoyment!

3. Recovery is key

It’s easy to get carried away with classes, workouts and training when we’ve got so many options on our doorstep. Don’t forget the body needs some downtime to recover during your routine. If you’re training hard and pushing your body five, six or seven days a week, make sure you’re also thinking about your sleep, nutrition and include other methods of recovery. Taking care of your recovery will help avoid the burnout and ultimately help you achieve your long term goals.

4. Set yourself a goal

No matter how big or small….goal setting is a brilliant way to stay accountable. Set yourself short term and long term goals which help you keep your wider goals like ‘Go to the gym in 2024’ on track. Milo and the Bull helps members train for events such as Hyrox, Battle Cancer and more, setting yourself the challenge to complete an event like this is a brilliant way to stay accountable.
